The school holiday centre in Charmey was built in 1973 on behalf of the City of Zurich. It stands as a remarkable and expressive testimony to the culture of the 1970s. The ensemble is listed as a cultural asset of the Canton of Fribourg. As part of the rehabilitation, the rock gardens planted with shrubs and conifers from the 1970s were restored and enhanced, and the leisure facilities were renewed. Particular attention was given to water management in order to prevent flooding risks. The design integrates seamlessly into the surrounding meadow landscape, and in a few years’ time the intervention will appear as though it has always been there.
