Nyon Cemetery Masterplan

In response to the evolution of funerary practices and demographic projections towards 2050, the City of Nyon commissioned us to carry out a masterplan study aimed at guiding the gradual transformation of this sensitive site, while preserving its character as a place of remembrance and reflection.

The masterplan sets out a long-term overarching vision, structured around a precise and adaptable programme of funerary, landscape and reception spaces. It integrates the various types of burial and remembrance areas (in-ground graves, cinerary areas, columbariums, gardens of remembrance and ash-scattering gardens), while anticipating future needs through clearly identified land reserves.

Beyond capacity-related issues, the project asserts a strong landscape ambition: to reinforce the existing planting structure, diversify atmospheres, promote biodiversity and enhance user comfort.

The intervention strategy is based on a phased implementation over several decades, allowing for a measured management of investments and continuous adaptation to changing uses. Principles of restraint, reuse of existing materials, and sustainable management of soils and plantings guide the entire project.
